We like to thank everyone for the great feedback we received for our last update. We received over 1700 emails regarding your thoughts for standby time and are trying to answer them and all additional questions that were in many of the emails we received as well. We are thankful for all replies we received but like you can imagine it is hard for us to keep up answering all incoming emails fast when we have that amount and want to put time into all follow up questions many had. So we like to thank everyone in advance for your patience.

So what did we learn this far.

Most of you thought 4 weeks is in the low end but can be acceptable because it will be possible to add a solar panel or attach a wall power adapter. Many pointed out that it is important for the MOVEZ to responsive and react quick to commands from the z-wave hub.

We have continued to receive feedback regarding how to improve standby time at the z-wave side. One suggestion we are currently looking into is giving the option for user to set a Wake-Up Interval in order to limit polling from hubs to only occur when the z-wave module is active. This together with the other changes we have made is what we believe will fix the power problem. We will keep you updated regarding how this progress and will send beta devices as soon as we have power consumption level that is acceptable.

For those wanting broader explanation regarding the challenge we have with MOVEZ here follows an attempt to explain it.

Many z-wave products are either battery powered or powered from the mains power. The products running on batteries are often sensors or remotes that mainly should send data into the z-wave network. These products do not relay any data in the z-wave network and are only active for the short time it takes to send the data then goes to sleep turning off the radio making the battery last very long. The products running from the mains power relay all data sent in the z-wave network extending the range and improving the radio cover of the z-wave network making the z-wave network a very robust radio protocol for home automation. These products can be anything from lightbulbs, wall outlets or similar and they have the radio on at all time. For a product to be able to respond to any command form the z-wave network the radio need to be turned on for at least the time it takes to receive the data. The radio is however what consumes the most amount of power and it is impossible to know beforehand when data need to be revived so for a battery powered z-wave product the radio is turned on for a while to listen for data and then turned off to conserve power. How often this on/off occurs affect both battery consumption but also how fast data can be received and commands be executed. MOVEZ is not like many other z-wave products in the sense that it is powered from batteries but still need to receive data from the z-wave network and do this without mush delay. There are other z-wave products that face similar challenges. Z-wave door locks are similar in the sense that they are also battery powered and still need to receive data from the hub to unlock. We have looked a lot at how they have managed the power savings and are trying to implement the same type of power settings and are confident we will be able to do so.

For MOVEZ we also need a way of counting the turns of the motor. In the beginning we tried to use only the z-wave module to do this but after a while we realized that we could not get it reliable, so we needed another way of counting the turns of the motor. Because we have a Bluetooth version of a motor for blinds and shade called MOVE we thought it would be a quick thing to use the same microcontroller that we use in the MOVE devices in the MOVEZ but among many, many, many other challenges we have had trying to get this to work the power consumption sky rocked when we had two radio running and getting a device certified with two radios in the same product is much more complicated than only having one we learned. Because we need a way of counting turns but are unable to do so with the z-wave module we then decided that we needed to turn off the Bluetooth function to reach an acceptable level of battery life. There are still things that need to be optimized and finalized but we are taking one step at the time getting everything in place so all you backers will get a usable MOVEZ and not just get a MOVEZ.

Hope this made it a little bit clearer what we have done, are doing and will do. Please contact us at indiegogo@teptron.com for any question.

We like to thank all you backers for the support you are giving us and together we are making progress in getting MOVEZ to the market.

Er det lov å håpe ?

First we like to thank all of you great backers that have helped us with suggestions how to get pass the problems we have had. The new solution we have developed puts the z-wave module in sleep mode using Z-Wave FLiRS 1000ms technology and we are turning off all register functions and a lot of features in the mcu controlling the motor. This brings a 1 second interval in the communication with the gateway. This means that between the point when a user want to change position of a MOVEZ and when the device will execute that command there will be some delay. In theory because we have 1 second interval the delay time would be 0.1 to 1 second but in reality there will be a lot of things influencing this. In our tests with different z-wave hubs we have seen that things like how fast the transmission between the app and gateway is and how good radio connection the MOVEZ will have does affect this delay quite a bit. But we think the delay will be acceptable and thanks to it we have managed to drive down the power consumption to a level where we think it will be acceptable and we can send out beta test devices. During the next week we will reach out to all beta testers asking for the correct address where they want us to send the devices. We are then planning for beta testers to test during 4 weeks before we together with the beta testers can make a decision regarding if the software is stable enough to go forward or if changes are needed. We are still working with catching up with emails but we have prioritised development the last weeks making emails pile up. We feel that we are making progress and will be able to go forward with this new power saving solution. Like we have mentioned before our goal is to send everyone useful devices not only send devices. We like to thank all you backers for the patience, understanding and support. Together we will bring MOVEZ to the market.

Sitter med Beta-enheten min her!

Hi Everyone

A big thanks for all feedback we received to our last update. It’s really clear from your feedback that most of you have realized the benefits of using the new MOVE 2 hardware and add the z-wave to it so that’s what we have decided to do.

We also like thank the beta testers. From them we have received feedback such as that the battery life is at the low end and suggestion to update gateway when using buttons at the device. Parts for new MOVE 2 devices are ordered and they will be equipped them with z-modules, it will take about 4-5 weeks to get them and assemble. Once ready we will send them out to beta testers.

Because we are confident that the new MOVE 2 platform will be good enough in terms of battery and basic functionality, we will send the devices for z-wave certification testing once we have received the ordered parts and have assembled devices which will also happen in the same timespan 4-5 weeks from now. If all go well in the certification, in contrast to previous attempts, we will after that start main production.

We like to take the opportunity to yet again thank everyone for the patience and understanding you have shown us.

Last some answers to recent questions:

Have Teptron used z-wave money or resources to develop a Bluetooth MOVE version 2 (which have led to long development time)?

We like to yet again make the clarification, the hardware, the Bluetooth coding and the Z-wave coding is developed by different people and the challenges we have had with getting the z-wave in place have nothing to do with the new MOVE 2 being developed.

Have Teptron produced and shipped any products?

The first Bluetooth version of MOVE was in production over a long time and there are thousands of users of it. Also it has been subject to Chinese copies like we have mentioned before. In the first version of MOVE we used a BLE mesh framework from a third part supplier, meaning we are very limited in what we can do to fix connectivity issues in the first version of MOVE. Because we have had the first version of MOVE in production for a long time we have had the possibility to gather much knowledge and put it into the new MOVE 2 construction. This is the reason the new MOVE 2 uses another BLE mesh framework and will work much more reliable.

Is there any other z-wave motor for blinds and shades on the market?

To our knowledge there are no other aftermarket motor that is in production with z-wave capability native and even though the launch is delayed our MOVEZ will still be the first of its kind. We like to point out that the main feature of MOVEZ is that it use z-wave radio, the howl point to develop it was to give users a native, easy and great z-wave user experience.

If anyone have more questions please send them to us at indiegogo@teptron.com and we will try anser them.

We would first like to thank all the beta testers for the usable feedback we have received. We are working with implementing and adjusting the suggestions we have received, to make the MOVEZ even better.

Attached is a picture showing the new MOVE 2 and the old MOVE. For everyone that is not aware about the history of the old MOVE with Bluetooth we can tell you that we have sold a lot of them and learned a lot from that. Many advancements have been made with the new MOVE 2 such as new circuit board for better user profile management, stronger Bluetooth range and bigger batteries together with more efficient sleep mode which means longer battery lifetime. Bluetooth communication between new MOVE 2 and smart phones and tablets are improved to support all functionalities such as automation and grouping in a more stable manner.

But we like to point out that new MOVE 2 and old MOVE are different products and should not be confused or mixed up with MOVEZ. These are three different products.

We have used partners to develop the z-wave part in our MOVEZ and it can be based on either the old MOVE or the improved new MOVE 2. We have used partners in the z-wave development to get pass all challenges and like you all know, there have been a lot of challenges getting everything to work like expected.

Now here is the big question we have for all you backers:

Should we use this new MOVE 2 design for the MOVEZ or should we stick with the old MOVE ?

With this new design battery lifetime is up to 5 times longer! When frequently used the old MOVE had lifetime of 3 weeks while the new one has up to 4 months. Standby lifetime can be up to 16 months.

The motor can also put out 40 % more torque to lift heavy curtains or shades.

The battery is removable and can be charged without being attached to the main device. The main device can also be used with power from the mains power supply without the battery pack making it much smaller to install.

The feedback we have received from beta testers, that currently tests MOVEZ based upon old MOVE, is that battery lifetime and motor torque is at the low side. We also know that many of you would be frustrated if we did not give you all this opportunity to influence the path forward. Please contact us at indiegogo@teptron.com with your opinion how we should proceed. We are thankful for the patience and feedback we have received from all of you awesome backers.

Hi Everyone   We are glad to announce that the beta testing is going well and we are going to expand the test group to include more beta testers. After the expanded group is satisfied with quality and functionality we will start main production.   As you can see changes has been made to our online presence. We have limited the channel we are present on and we are now managing the website ourselves again.    The story behind this is that Teptron tried to improve customer service by outsourcing it to OmniBlinds, driven by a group of former Teptron employes. Our agreement was that OmniaBlinds should be responsible to handle the website and customer communications. But due to violations of multiple points in the contract Teptron has been forced to cancel the contract. The most serious violation is that OmniaBlinds found a cheap Chinese copy of MOVE at Alibaba that they promoted and have tried to sell to Teptron customers.   These events means that Teptron will not in the short term be able to manage all previous communication channels and have decided to limit communication to email only. It will take some time to rebuild the customer care function in Teptron and we are doing our best to quickly get persons in place that will handle the incoming messages. We are very sorry it came down to this but think that in the long run we will be able to get a professional customer care function in place to quickly answer your questions. Once this function is in place we will open the different message channels again.   Hope this answered your questions regarding this topic and please just get back to us if you have more questions.   The customer support issue is not something that will affect development and introduction of MOVEZ. We are just about to release MOVE 2 and will in the next update give you details of that device. Main thing is that MOVE 2 uses a battery pack with 5 times the energy amount compared to MOVE 1 and MOVEZ, like you all know the amount of power have been the biggest obstacle for us making MOVEZ so the platform MOVE 2 brings will fix that issue permanently.    All in all we are pushing forward in our journey to bring smart devices to all of you, our amazing backers and the other customers.
