  1. FAQ: Locks for SmartThings in the Nordic region. Many are curious about locks, and since it's essentially only an option for us up here, I made a FAQ yesterday, read if it's of interest. 1. ID-lock with a Z-wave chip is supported both with the default device handler from SmartThings and with extended functionality in custom code. I recommend giving some dollars to rboy, whom you can find at community.smartthings.com, so you get the best possible code for the lock. This one has 2 codes. 1 master code for the family, and a service code that you can change as often as you like. If you use the master for mom and dad, and service for the rest of the family, etc., you decide yourself. It comes with 10 RFID tags that are unique when added. With a smart app, you can change the service code. Tags vs. codes. Tag number 1 is automatically the master code user, number 2 is the service code user, numbers 3-10 are unique with no possibility for a code. More codes in the future? Possibility to change codes according to time? ID-Lock isn't very informative on such matters, so my theory is that we probably won't see support for more codes for a long time, no point in nagging them either because they won't respond anyway. Changing codes according to time? For example, open until 12 on Friday because a mason is coming. This can be solved in many ways, but I think doing it manually in a smart app, or on the lock itself, would be the most natural. If you want to create a schedule for when, for example, the cleaning help comes on Thursdays after 12:00, that can be solved in Core. Set the code automatically on Thursday morning, and change it to something else in the afternoon in the same Core script. Notifications: You can receive notifications when user 1, 2, 3... opens, you can get a notification if an incorrect code is used, you can get a notification if the door is burning (temperature), a notification if the door is open or closed, you can turn off the alarm if the lock is opened... There are no limits to what you can get out of data and do something with it. 2. Yale in the Nordic region is locked in such a way that the Z-wave module for homebrew will not work, and Trioving has no plans to change this, most likely due to agreements with alarm companies. This works elsewhere on the globe. 3. There are a couple of other alternatives that can probably be used in blocks, etc., but which are probably not very suitable to use on the main door in the Norwegian climate.
